Meet
My 3rd grade teacher was a single woman who was an experienced traveler. She often showed us her travel slides of Ireland, exuding independence and confidence all the while. I was so inspired! My 8 year old self saw independence as having a job, traveling , dressing cute, and carrying a shoulder bag.
Did I always see myself ending up here?
Yes.
But I could of never imagined the road I took.
So after my inspirational experience in 3rd grade, we moved to the suburbs of Denver, Colorado for my dad’s health.
I started 4th grade where the teaching style was very different than what I had grown up with so far in St. Louis, Missouri. We had 'group teachers' and were divided into 3 groups, for which we had 3 teachers that taught us different subjects. I was watching “That Girl” on television, walking to and from school, making new neighborhood friends, I still remember. Betsy, Barb and Peggy.
“That Girl” was an extension of my 3rd grade teacher.
A young woman living and working independently in the city, making her own way and decisions. I admired her for those things along with her beauty and outgoing spirit. I loved reading and continued reading
books that interested me.
From 4th Grade thru the middle of 7th grade I attended 5 separate school systems. (My dad was a grass is greener, kind of guy). My mom didn’t work, so we followed dad wherever he went. One of those school districts I attended for just 1 week.
I found myself thrust into lots of change, lots of adaptation that made it hard,
but I learned.
In those times I was fairly quiet, “mousy” is the term I use to describe that.
In the middle of 7th grade, my mom left my dad. She brought my sister and I to the very small town of Gainesville, MO from a big city Junior High school. CULTURE SHOCK!!!!!!! I call this part of my life LEARNING THE BIG LIE. I did complete the rest of my primary school years there. I found my place and created life long loyal bonds that mean so much to me this day.
Fast forward to myself as a young adult; rebellious, determined to do things “my way” no matter what, I
was a single mom to 2 sons, had lots of jobs, doing lots of things. But in 1983, I AGAIN found my
place for real. I worked for barely any money, barely paying the bills (sometimes didn’t), but I began
my upward journey. I went into nursing and from there I started making much better choices (still some
questionable ones, lol).
That independent young woman spirit that I had admired all the way back in 3rd grade was alive and well.
I was blessed by a dear friend and SOME FANTASTIC mentors who believed in me, and kept me moving forward. I took backward steps sometimes, but I was confident and recovered and got back up on that horse and kept riding!
In 2008 I began my coaching journey as a Director in the Health Care Field with colleagues and co-workers around career choices and finding financial independence the way they that it looked like for them.
Now at the age of 63, I look back at the rich experiences, the opportunities, the people
that have helped me, and all the people who saw something in me and gave me “my chance”. I have led
small to medium large teams to great success, both in the workplace and personally. I believe that
every single experience led to the next one, and I believe that ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE if you are willing to dream it, believe it and accept it. It also requires a willingness to put in the hard #self-work to
#makeithappen.
I knew early on what I wanted. It didn’t always look the way I wanted it to, my choices, but having
been thrust through so much change early on in life taught me not to fear change. That shifting my mindset
made all the difference in the outcome. I would love to coach you to find your place, to be financially
independent, and gain the confidence to #livelifelikeyoumeanit !
